History
Domaine Pfister has a rich history dating back to 1780, when the Pfister family first began cultivating vines in the village of Dahlenheim, a short distance from Strasbourg. Over the centuries, the family has continued to nurture their vineyards, with each generation contributing to the winery's legacy. The current generation is led by Mélanie Pfister, who is the eighth generation of wine growers and was born in 1981. This continuity has allowed Domaine Pfister to maintain its traditional winemaking practices while also adapting to modern techniques and trends in the wine industry.
The winery's location on clay-limestone soils in Dahlenheim provides a unique terroir that influences the flavor profiles of their wines. Domaine Pfister is known for producing a variety of wines, including Crémant d'Alsace, Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris, and Pinot Noir. Their wines are highly regarded for their quality and authenticity, reflecting the family's dedication to their craft over generations.
Terroir
Domaine Pfister is situated in the village of Dahlenheim, which is located in the northern reaches of Alsace, near Strasbourg. The terroir of Domaine Pfister is characterized by clay-limestone soils, which contribute to the unique flavor profiles of their wines. The village's terroir is particularly favorable for Riesling production due to its cooler climate and the abundance of limestone and less sandy soils. This terroir results in elegant, mineral renditions of Riesling, which are distinct from those produced in other regions of Alsace with different soil compositions. The vineyards are not shielded from cold weather as those further south in the Haut Rhin, adding complexity to the wines. The terroir's influence is evident in the wines' structured ability to age, particularly for the Rieslings grown on limestone terroir.
