About

Dom Pérignon, born Pierre Pérignon in 1638, was a Benedictine monk who significantly contributed to the development of sparkling wine in the Champagne region. He served as the cellar master at the Abbey of Hautvillers from 1668 until his death in 1715. Contrary to popular myth, he did not invent sparkling Champagne but rather perfected techniques such as blending grapes, pruning vines, and using thicker glass bottles with cork stoppers. His innovations and meticulous approach elevated the quality and reputation of Champagne wines, making him a legendary figure in the wine industry. Today, his name is synonymous with luxury and sophistication, associated with Moët & Chandon's Prestige Cuvée.
