History
Domaine Leflaive has a rich history dating back to 1717 when Claude Leflaive established residence in Puligny-Montrachet. Over the years, the domaine grew under the guidance of Joseph Leflaive, who acquired vineyards and houses, eventually expanding to 24 hectares in Puligny-Montrachet. Joseph's son, Vincent, and his brother Joseph-Régis, continued the family legacy, with Vincent acquiring a parcel of Le Montrachet in 1991. The domaine's reputation was further enhanced by Anne-Claude Leflaive, who pioneered biodynamic viticulture in Burgundy, converting the domaine to biodynamic practices in 1996. Today, the domaine is managed by Brice de La Morandiere, who continues the family's commitment to quality and biodynamic methods.
Terroir
Domaine Leflaive's terroir is characterized by calcareous clay soils with varying percentages of clay and limestone, depending on the location. These soils include trace elements such as iron, magnesium, and boron, which provide essential nutrients to the vines. The domaine's vineyards are situated in the highly expressive terroirs of the Grand Crus and Premier Crus of Côte de Beaune, which are known for their unique geological and climatic conditions. The terroir's influence is evident in the Domaine Leflaive wines, which are renowned for their purity and structure. The domaine's commitment to biodynamic viticulture further enhances the terroir's expression, promoting a natural balance in the vineyards and resulting in wines that reflect the specific qualities of their terroirs.
