About

Château Lafite Rothschild, a First Growth vineyard in Pauillac, Bordeaux, has a rich history dating back to 1234. Initially owned by Gombaud de Lafite, it was later acquired by the Ségur family in the 17th century. The estate was renowned for its high-quality wines, earning the nickname "The King's Wine" under Nicolas-Alexandre de Ségur. After the French Revolution, it was sold to Dutch merchants and later to Baron James Mayer Rothschild in 1868. The Rothschild family has maintained ownership ever since, with the estate known for its elegant wines featuring dark red fruit, cedar, and blackcurrant notes[1][2][4].
