About
Château Gruaud Larose is a renowned winery in the Saint-Julien appellation of Bordeaux, France. Founded in 1725 by Abbot Gruaud, the property was initially called Fond-Bedeau and was managed by two Gruauds: a magistrate and a priest. After the magistrate's death in 1778, the estate was renamed Gruaud Larose by Joseph Sebastian de La Rose. The wine is classified as a Second Growth in the 1855 Bordeaux Wine Official Classification. Known for its traditional style, Gruaud Larose produces powerful and elegant wines, often aging exceptionally well, particularly in great vintages. The vineyards are planted with 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Petit Verdot, and the wine is fermented in a combination of cement tanks and wooden vats before aging in 50% new French oak barrels for 18 months.
