Krug

History

Krug Champagne was founded in 1843 by Johann-Joseph Krug, a German immigrant from Mainz on the Rhine. Krug learned his trade at Champagne Jacquesson before setting up his own Champagne House in Reims. He was known for his innovative blending techniques, offering a unique and luxurious experience. After Krug's death in 1866, his son Paul I took over the business, followed by his own son Joseph Krug II in 1910. The company continued to thrive, with significant contributions from Henri Krug in the 1960s and the introduction of new wines like Krug Rosé in the 1970s. Today, Krug is part of the LVMH group and is known for its high-quality Champagnes, including the iconic Krug Grande Cuvée and rare single-vineyard wines like Clos du Mesnil and Clos d’Ambonnay.

Terroir

Krug sources its grapes from approximately 250 different vineyards, located in the best terroirs of the Champagne region. Each vineyard is individually vinified according to its particular characteristics, ensuring that the terroir of each plot is preserved and reflected in the final blend. The terroir of Krug is characterized by a rich diversity of plots, which contribute to the complexity and finesse of its Champagnes.
