About
Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé is one of the oldest and most prestigious wine estates in Burgundy, tracing its history back to the 15th century. The domaine has been under the same family ownership for 20 generations, a remarkable feat in Burgundy. The estate is known for its exceptional vineyards, particularly in Musigny and Bonnes Mares, where it owns significant portions. The wines are renowned for their elegance, refinement, and ability to age well, making them a staple in many wine cellars. The current co-gérantes, Claire and Marie de Ladoucette, continue the family tradition of excellence in winemaking and vineyard management.
History
Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé has a rich history dating back to the 15th century. The estate's roots can be traced to Jean Moisson, a wealthy Burgundian ancestor who acquired vineyards and laid the foundation for the current estate buildings. The name de Vogüé first entered Burgundy history in 1766. The domaine has been under the same ownership for 20 generations, a unique feat even by Burgundy standards. Comte Georges de Vogüé inherited the vineyards from his father in 1925, and since then, the domaine has been known as Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé. The current co-gérantes are Claire de Causans and Marie de Ladoucette, the granddaughters of Comte Georges de Vogüé.
Terroir
Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé is deeply rooted in the terroir of Chambolle-Musigny, a village in the Côte de Nuits region of Burgundy. The estate owns a significant portion of the Grand Cru vineyard Le Musigny, as well as a portion of the Grand Cru Bonnes-Mares. The vineyards are cared for according to organic principles, with beneficial herbs planted between rows to control pests and vineyards plowed by horse. The estate also makes its own organic compost. The terroir of Musigny is renowned for producing wines that are both complete and profound, with a finish described as "majesty itself" by Clive Coates.
